| Linda Chandler’s life changed when she took custody of her two grandchildren. She had to quit work for a while and stay home to focus completely on their behavioral problems. And when she started supporting a family of three on a low, fixed income, her finances took a major hit.
Every month she watched the money she needed for her grandchildren go instead to the gas company, with bills of over $300 per month. Her old, inefficient furnace was helping that money fly out of her drafty windows, until she turned to NODA for help.

NODA is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), and was created to help people just like Linda and her family. NODA awarded Linda an emergency home repair grant to repair her furnace and replace all of the windows in her home.
As a result, her gas bills have dropped to around $100 per month during the coldest months. Her family is warmer, healthier, and more secure. Thanks to NODA, Linda's money works for her family – instead of the gas company. |
